Architecture
In my work as an architect, I often find that the most valuable approach is to repair and re-use a building. Preserving and strengthening the salvageable elements or “fabric” of a structure, embodies one of the basic principles of sustainability and resilience.
This way, I adapt the “Boro” philosophy of repair and re-use to architectural design. For instance, we can thoughtfully remodel a residence to create an accessory dwelling unit. We can adapt the home to make it accessible so that a person may age gracefully in place. By strategically integrating the old with the new, the finished product is familiar yet better than it was before.
